Poly Design has introduced VdbRemesh, a novel C++ based, multi-threaded openVDB remeshing modifier designed for 3ds Max. This powerful tool features a procedural filter stack comprising 10 distinct filters, applicable in any desired sequence.
The developers highlight that VdbRemesh, as a volume-based modifier, operates significantly differently from conventional surface modifiers. Its versatility extends to various applications, including smoothing the edges of hard-surface CAD models, post-processing 3D scans to eliminate unwanted holes, creating smooth high-poly models from low-poly counterparts, and generating optimized proxy meshes for high-poly models. It can create production ready assets.
Further use-cases include generating low-poly, clean meshes suitable for baking, crafting closed, 3D-printable meshes from standard surface meshes, exploring innovative 3D forms free from topological constraints, uniformizing surface topology for sculpting or simulation, and performing non-intersecting shell operations, amongst others.
Key Features and Applications:
- CAD Model Smoothing: Refine hard-surface CAD models by smoothing edges.
- 3D Scan Cleanup: Post-process 3D scans to eliminate holes and imperfections.
- High-Poly to Low-Poly conversion for game ready assets.
- Proxy Mesh creation.
- Mesh generation for 3D Printing.
- Topology Unification: Prepare models for sculpting or simulation by creating uniform surface topology.
