Mercenaries Engineering has announced the development of Rumba 1.0, a standalone 3D animation tool poised to modernize and accelerate workflows. Notable features include character posing with selection-less manipulators on the geometry, specialized finger and hand manipulators, and seamless handling of IK/FK and FK/IK systems.
Workflow enhancements include true non-destructive animation layers and user-friendly constraint layers. Users will appreciate the ability to maintain the visibility of each layer’s timing and easily mix and merge animations. Additional features include drag-and-drop keyframes, support for copying and pasting across time, layers, controllers, and characters.
The developers state that Rumba provides a comprehensive suite of tools expected in modern software, such as a professional curve editor, onion skinning, a poses-and-clips library, multi-frame pose editing capabilities, and motion trails.
Support for existing Maya rigs is included, with the option to integrate Rumba-specific features. While the software launch is pending, interested artists can register on the software’s website to join a closed beta program. For a visual demonstration, a video is available on YouTube.
