Kinematic Lab has introduced Roll, a new modifier for 3DS Max that allows you to simulate any geometry rolling realistically across a surface, much like a physical simulation. The plugin is designed to provide artists with extensive control over animation, featuring useful tools such as the ability to select and animate a helper to drive the rolling object. It includes controls for adding a bulge effect upon ground contact and a “fly mode” that incorporates air friction for natural rolling velocity when the geometry is airborne. There’s also a “no roll” mode if you only need to project onto the ground.
It also has several baking options, including the ability to bake out to a helper that can then be used to transfer the motion to any other object. You can also bake to memory and bake from the current frame. Currently, it’s limited to rolling on flat terrains only.
The plugin is available for a perpetual license.
