The Academy Software Foundation (ASWF) has announced new members, recognized for their dedication to open source software development, which fosters growth and innovation within the motion picture industry.
LOS ANGELES — The Academy Software Foundation (ASWF) has welcomed NVIDIA as a premier member, alongside ftrack and Red Hat as general members. ASWF, a collaborative initiative between the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Linux Foundation, serves as a platform for open source software development in the motion picture and media sectors.
“We are thrilled to welcome NVIDIA, ftrack, and Red Hat,” said David Morin, executive director of the Academy Software Foundation at the Linux Foundation. “These companies bring valuable expertise in graphics, open source, and project management that will significantly benefit our communities and projects as we continue to expand.”
NVIDIA
Jon Ison, director of media & entertainment partnerships at NVIDIA, commented, “NVIDIA is committed to developing technologies that support the motion picture industry through accelerated graphics, 3D rendering, AI and deep learning, simulation and virtual production. Already a member of the Linux Foundation, we’re looking forward to working with the Academy Software Foundation to help shape the future of this creative industry.”
ftrack
“At ftrack we firmly believe in the open source model and its significance in the advancement of software development within the movie-making industry,” said ftrack CEO Fredrik Limsäter. “We are proud to join the Academy Software Foundation and contribute to its important mission. The visual effects industry thrives on collaboration – we offer several ftrack components and extensions for free use, sharing, and modification, and actively encourage customization of ftrack through our API. The more our users can benefit from innovative production tracking approaches, the better the projects they create, and the more the industry can prosper. We are excited to align with the ASWF in this goal and support a stronger open source community for all.”
Red Hat
Chris Wright, vice president and chief technology officer at Red Hat, noted, “Open source technologies have driven innovation in the motion picture and broader media industry for years, and Red Hat has been proud to collaborate with many sector leaders to enable their adoption of open source and advance technologies in a way that has fostered this innovation. We are delighted to join the Academy Software Foundation to extend this work and drive open standards that deliver sustainable interoperability.”
