Katana 4.0 released
Katana 4.0

Foundry has released Katana, its look development and lighting software. This release introduces a new artist-focused lighting mode, incorporating innovative workflows designed to offer artists a more intuitive experience, akin to that of a live-action cinematographer. This mode allows for the direct creation and modification of lights on a rendered image within Katana’s viewer, using intuitive gestures.

Katana 4.0 also introduces foresight rendering workflows, a feature that enables artists to work simultaneously with renders from multiple shots, frames, assets, asset variations, and other tasks, all within a single Katana project file. This update also provides support for networked machines, offering rapid and scalable rendering feedback.

USD has been enhanced with an updated Katana Hydra bridge, USD preview surface support, and USD material export, providing improved fidelity and performance in Katana’s Hydra viewer. This enhancement makes Katana well-suited for driving look development for a Hydra Viewer or final render across all departments.
