A new update has been announced to FormCutter, a boolean based tool for 3ds Max. This tool allows users to cut into or extrude objects using a freehand path. The developers state that this tool is designed for a variety of applications, from initial concepts through to final output, including developing interactive projects and experimenting with ideas, with options to enhance the aesthetic appeal of designs.
Version 2.5 introduces several new features, including:
- A streamlined UI with various new icons and automatic layout controls that adjust in rows and columns when the user resizes the UI.
- A radial menu for easier access.
- Action cut types: cut, split, add, carve, extract, and draw.
- Drawing cut shapes: circle, box, ngon, and mesh.
- The ability to draw cut shapes on the surface of the mesh or in screen view.
- Multi-drawing shapes for more complex designs.
- Interactive tools for applying effects like collapse, symmetry, chamfer, shell, pivot, and variable round.
- Mirror drawing shapes on a 2D axis in local or world space, which is then shown on the viewport.
- Cloning drawing shapes using a grid or radial layout.
- World grid snap drawing shapes for precise alignment.
The tool is available for purchase.
