Troubleshooting: “The System Cannot Open the Device or File Specified” Error During Autodesk Product Installation
When installing an Autodesk product, you might encounter the following error message:
The system cannot open the device or file specified.
Here are some examples of this message appearing in various Autodesk products:


Possible Causes:
- The required file is missing.
- Your antivirus software is blocking the file installation.
Resolution:
To resolve this error, please try the following steps:
- Check if the file mentioned in the error message actually exists on your system. If it doesn’t, download the installer using the Autodesk Virtual Agent (AVA), the Download Now method, or the Browser Download method.
- Temporarily disable any antivirus software.
- Navigate to Control Panel > Security and Maintenance > Change User Account Control settings. Adjust the slider to “Never notify.”
- Run the installation process again.
Important Note: Once the installation is complete, remember to return to the User Account Control settings and reset the slider to its previous level. Also, re-enable your antivirus software.
