Corona 4 Released: New Caustics, Lightmix Enhancements & More

Corona 4 released with new caustics

Chaos Czech has released Corona 4, and it’s packed with exciting new features. This update introduces a new Caustics algorithm that’s designed for speed and ease of use, requiring just a couple of clicks for setup. It handles both reflective and refractive caustics, including dispersion, offering greater realism. Caustics can be enabled or disabled for each light source, and the results are fully compatible with Corona’s Lightmix post-production tool.

Other enhancements include the ability to select objects and set the focal point directly within a rendered image, whether you’re using the VFB or the viewport interactive rendering mode. Cameras now feature a new fisheye mode, and the Intel AI Denoiser is no longer limited to Intel GPUs, expanding its usability.

Lightmix has been further improved, allowing you to render multiple sun and environment setups, then seamlessly swap or blend them after the render is complete. Furthermore, Lightmix also provides the capability to denoise the “Rest” layer, which encompasses all lights not specifically assigned to a layer.

Volumetric media, when overlapping, now interact correctly without creating artifacts. There’s also a new image filtering system designed to make noise less apparent to the viewer. Finally, the Adaptive Light Solver is now fully functional and enabled by default, helping to improve render times significantly.
