AMD has announced a USD plugin for Blender. This powerful addition brings enhanced USD workflow capabilities to Blender users. Key features include:
- Efficient USD Import: Import USD files into Blender as “references.” This allows you to incorporate a USD file as part of the scene graph without fully loading it into Blender’s memory, optimizing performance for large scenes.
 - Scene Assembly: Combine Blender data and USD data to create complex and layered scenes. This allows for a flexible and powerful workflow when working with assets from different sources.
 - Streamlined Export: Export assembled USD stages for seamless integration with other applications in your pipeline.
 -
Versatile Rendering with Hydra Framework: Render within Blender using the USD Hydra Framework. Hydra acts as a middle layer for renderers, enabling a single renderer adaptation to work across multiple applications, including this Blender addon. This provides greater flexibility and consistency in your rendering workflow. Supported Hydra render delegates include:
- AMD’s Radeon ProRender
 - Hydra’s default Storm delegate
 - Intel Embree (CPU) delegate
 - Pixar RenderMan delegate
 - Autodesk Arnold
 - Otoy Octane
 - Redshift
 - Cycles
 - Intel Ospray
