V-Ray 6 for 3ds Max Beta: Real-Time Clouds, Enmesh & More!

V-Ray 6 beta announced

Chaos has announced that a beta version of V-Ray 6 for 3ds Max is now available for testing. This release introduces several exciting new features, including a real-time clouds system. This system integrates seamlessly with the existing sun and sky tools, enabling the creation of more dynamic and engaging procedural skies without relying on HDRIs.

This release also includes the uniquely named VrayEnmesh Modifier. This modifier allows users to cover a surface with geometry instead of a texture. Crucially, unlike traditional instancing, this method doesn’t consume extra memory for the repeating geometry. This means you can utilize billions of polygons without impacting memory consumption.

Speaking of instancing, V-Ray 6 will include, for the first time, Chaos Scatter. This is the new and improved scattering tool that was recently introduced in Corona Version 8.

A new mode has been added to the V-Ray Dome light, called Finite Dome. This mode allows users to fine-tune the ground projection using three new parameters: Radius, Projection height, and Ground blend. In addition, there are improvements to V-Ray Proxies, shaders, the VFB (Virtual Frame Buffer), and the denoiser, as well as new collaboration tools for cloud services.
