Adobe has announced changes to the licensing of its Substance products. As of November 2019, perpetual licenses are no longer being sold.
Subscribers who initiated their contract before November had until October 31, 2020, to apply for a perpetual license under the existing rent-to-own program. Existing perpetual license holders still have until the same date to renew their maintenance.
From this point forward, Substance is exclusively available through subscription, which includes Substance Painter, Substance Alchemist, Substance Designer, and 30 downloads per month from Substance Source. While the monthly pricing for the suite has not changed, the annual Indie license has been reduced to $219 from $239. Users who already possess a Perpetual license are offered a discounted price of $149 if they subscribe before December 31, 2019. Notably, this will not require the user to relinquish their existing perpetual license.
Even though they are no longer sold on the main platform, perpetual Indie licenses for Substance Painter and Substance Designer will continue to be available for purchase through Steam. The FAQ also explicitly states that Substance is not included as part of the Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps.
