Fix Broken UVs in Maya: Resolve Compatibility Issues After Import

Broken UVs in Maya after importing

Issue:

When opening a scene created in an older version of Maya within a more current version, the UVs might appear broken.

Causes:

The algorithms in newer Maya versions have been optimized and changed.

UVs with history originating from older Maya versions can be imported incorrectly into newer versions.

Solution:

To resolve this, follow these steps:

  1. Open the file in a previous version (Maya 2015 or older).
  2. Delete non-deformer history on the objects.
    1. Select the object(s).
    2. Navigate to Edit > Delete By Type > History > Non-Deformer History.
  3. Re-save the file.

Opening the saved file without history prevents the new UVs from being affected by the algorithm.
